Fortune is an enchantment applied to mining and digging tools that increases the number and/or chances of specific item drops. It does not increase experience drops.

The Level-III fortune enchantment provides a maximum of 4x fortune to the gamers with a maximum of 120%. Coal ore drops Coal maximum of 4 drops.

The maximum level for the Fortune enchantment is Level 3. This means that you can enchant an item with up to Fortune III.

The Fortune Enchantment can be obtained in many ways. The enchantment table offers Fortune I - III. Fortune II-III Enchanted Books can be found in the Experimentation Table. Fortune IV can be found as a reward from the Crystal Nucleus.

Fortune III can be obtained through finding it in Bastion Remnants and Desert Temples, along with Jungle Temples and Rarely Nether Fortresses. The stronghold also has a slight chance of spawning a Fortune III enchantment book in a Stronghold Library Chest, but it'll most likely get sucked with another enchantment.

Fortune II gives a chance to multiply drops by 2 or 3 (25% (1⁄4) chance each, averaging 75% (3⁄4) increase), and Fortune III gives a chance to multiply drops by 2, 3, or 4 (20% (1⁄5) chance each, averaging 120% (11⁄5) increase).

For coal ore, diamond ore, emerald ore, lapis lazuli ore, redstone ore, iron ore, copper ore, gold ore, nether gold ore, nether quartz ore, and amethyst clusters, Fortune I gives a 33% (¹⁄₃) chance to multiply drops by 2 (averaging 33% (¹⁄₃) increase), Fortune II gives a chance to multiply drops by 2 or 3 (25% (¹⁄₄) ...

In order to obtain the highest level of enchantment, you need a total of 15 bookshelves. The bookshelves must be arranged one block away from the enchanting table in a 1 high, 5 by 5 square, with an opening for a door.

Fortune on an axe can increase yield from breaking leaves & grass and boost seed rates when harvesting crops. This enchantment is used primarily for melon farms. Fortune works the same for every tool but grabbling with pickaxes makes gravel drop flint 100% of the time.

Destroying a clay block yields 4 clay balls. If broken with a tool enchanted with Silk Touch, it drops itself instead. Destroying a clay block with a tool enchanted with Fortune does not increase the amount of clay dropped.

How many diamonds with Fortune 3? ›

Fortune I gives a ¹⁄₃ chance for 2 diamonds, averaging 1.33 diamonds, Fortune II gives a 25% chance (each) to give 2 or 3 diamonds, averaging 1.75 diamonds, and Fortune III gives a 20% chance (each) to give 2, 3, or 4 diamonds, averaging 2.2 diamonds.

When Fortune is applied to a hoe, the tool will produce much better results when a player uses it to harvest items. Players should know that hoe can only be used to harvest certain plant-based or organic blocks.

The fortune enchantment works on the seeds, but not the crop.

With Fortune III, players can get up to four diamonds from mining a single block of diamond ore.

Breaking leaves with a tool enchanted with the Fortune enchantment increases the chances of dropping an apple: 0.556% (¹⁄₁₈₀) with Fortune I, 0.625% (¹⁄₁₆₀) with Fortune II, and 0.833% (¹⁄₁₂₀) with Fortune III.

If the pickaxe is enchanted with Fortune, it may drop an extra emerald per level of Fortune, up to a maximum of 4 emeralds with Fortune III.

Nether gold ore drops 2-6 gold nuggets when mined with any pickaxe. Fortune has a 33.3% chance to multiply the drops by 2, Fortune II has a 25% chance to multiply the drops by 2 or 3 and Fortune III has a 20% chance each to multiply the drops by 2, 3, or 4 for a maximum possible drop of 24 golden nuggets.
