[14.11] Bizzleberry's Season 13 Soraka Guide

By Terroronyou

Introduction

Hi, my name is Bizzleberry and I am a longtime League of Legends player, playing since before Season 1. Over the years I have achieved high ranking in solo queue, from Platinum in Season 1 (the highest at the time) to Challenger multiple times throughout the years. I used to stream in season 4-5 and stopped playing League for a year during season 6. I have now returned and am currently in Master as a support main. You can catch me on my stream or my Youtube channel. I try to explain what I am doing in most situations; feel free to ask any questions on stream or leave a comment on the guide!

Why Soraka?

Soraka is the BEST healing support in the game! If you love to heal and support in the traditional 'MMORPG' way then this is the champion for you! Not only can she heal she has a couple of unique crowd control spells and some nice damage early on. What's not to like!?

Soraka's Advantages

- LOADS of healing
- Can be aggressive during laning phase
- Generally easy to play
- Has a silence (not many champions have this)
- GlOBAL Healing Ultimate!
- Fast movement speed in certain situations

Soraka's Weaknesses

- Requires landing a skill shot to maximise healing output
- Can be quite squishy
- Base model is ugly
- Enemy will take grievous wounds to try and mitigate your healing

Runes

Sorcery

Summon Aery provides poke damage during the laning phase and extra sustain for your teammates when you heal them.

I recommend the following minor runes -

Manaflow Band helps maintains your mana throughout the game.

Transcendence gives you Ability haste as the game goes on. Very generic but also very good.

Gathering Storm Like the above, you only start to see benefits as the game length increases. If you are looking for a slight edge earlier in the game then Scorch is a viable option.

Resolve

Bone Plating can ensure you don't take as much damaging during trades, particularly in the laning phase. Second Wind is a valid option against poke bot lanes.

Revitalize Increases your healing & shields when allies and yourself get low on HP. Also minor but Summon Aery is affected by the shield, also Redemption works with this also. Using Barrier when low will also increase it's shield.

For Stat runes go for
Adaptive Force
Adaptive Force
Flat HP

Summoner Spells

&

Heal is great as it works in combination with Revitalize when you and/or your ally is low on health.

Other options include Exhaust or Barrier, dependant if your ADC has Heal already and refuses to swap, or if they have an assassin that you are particularly concerned about.

Abilities

Salvation

Provides you with a MASSIVE boost of movement speed when moving towards allied champions on low Health. Range is particularly large, at around 2 screen distances.

Starcall

Soraka's main ability during the laning phase. Provides a decent amount of damage, and if you land on an enemy champion will provide you with a 'Rejuvenation' buff. This will heal you over a short period of time.

In addition to the damage, this ability will also slow and give you movement speed. This ability will never give more than 1 stack of rejuvenation, even if you hit multiple targets at the same time.

Travel speed of the projectile is quicker, if you are casting it close to you.

This ability also works with Astral Infusion. If you have the 'Rejuvenation' buff you can also pass it to your ally if you have the buff if you heal them.

Astral Infusion

This is what Soraka is best known for. Incredible heals, but at the cost of her own health. You CANNOT kill yourself with this ability. It is advised no to put too many points in this very early on, but you still want to max it by level 10. This is because you will want to trade still with Starcall.

Equinox

This is quite a unique 2-part crowd control. The first part is a silence, then if people are still in the 'void zone' when the duration ends, they are rooted.

This ability is a silence, so will also interrupt channelled abilities, such as Jhin & Lucian ult.

If you place in-between yourself and the enemy when being chased, can be a viable rooting tool, as they will have to go around the circle.

TIP: If playing against a hard-engage, there is no point silencing them if they have already unloaded their kit, try and prevent the follow-up by silencing someone else.

Wish

A global Heal which increases dependant on how much health your allied champions have. You can heal people in stasis with this ( Stopwatch) or Bard Ult.

Items

h1]World Atlas[/h1]

World Atlas has now changed to auto-upgrade to Runic Compass (400 gold collected) and Bounty of Worlds (800g collected) from the Tribute gold quest.

This is the new support item of Season 2024. Every support player will also be taking World Atlas. If you played in Season 2023 it acts as a spelltheifs and a relic shield combined. In two parts:

1) If you attack an enemy champion or turret and have a 'charge' it will consume 1 charge to generate gold for you and towards your 'item quest'.

2) If you kill a minion with a charge you will get a flat amount of gold for killing the minion. The nearest ally will get the full minion gold amount. For example, if you kill a cannon minion, you will get x gold but your ADC will get the full amount, you are not denying your ADC full cannon minion gold.

Ideally you want to harrass the enemy to get charges for more golds and quicker 'quest completion' to get to Bounty of Worlds. When you get to Bounty of Worlds you will get to choose an item to 'replace' Bounty of worlds. I recommend you take Dream Maker. This is a generic buffing item, which will occassionally give whoever you shield / heal a buff in which they take reduced damage from the next hit they take and also enhance their next instance of damage.

Ionian Boots of Lucidity

Provides Soraka with extra cooldown reduction, including on her summoners. Very cheap purchase and can be bought first before anything else if you feel you need to extra mobility either for roaming or to simply dodge skillshots in lane.

Mobility Boots used to be a solid option for roaming, however, generally I don't purchase these anymore.

Imperial Mandate

Although Soraka can proc the Imperial Mandate with her Q Starcall . The overall benefit of other items makes this item not worth it.

Moonstone Renewer

Moonstone Renewer is Soraka's best item. It just works so well in combination with her already amazing heals. If possible try and get in champion combat and get the maximum amount of stacks before healing to increase your healing potential even more!

Redemption

Redemption is currently one of the best utility support items in the game. It is a soft counter to poke comps, but is usually purchased because of the versatility of the item. Provides a massive heal AoE heal, at a very long distance and can be used while dead. It can be a massive game changer when used in the centre of a teamfight.

Do note that the heal also works on Minions and rift herald. Redemption does true damage to enemy CHAMPIONS and no longer works on minions and does not work on Baron / Dragons.

Ardent Censer

Ardent Censer works best with an auto-attacking hypercarry such as Vayne or Kog'Maw.

Staff of flowing water

Staff of Flowing Water Perfectly fine item if you are looking to buff a team that has a lot of ability power damage on.

Mikael's Crucible

Mikael's Blessing is an OK item. It no longer heals and provides the target with a cleanse. If you are quick it can disable Death Sentence but would likely be used to stop basic annoying cc such as Wither, Frenzying Taunt, stuns and fears. I only recommend this for experienced players due to the fact that having to pay attention to so many things already (double stun placement, ult placement etc) that keeping an eye for CC also can be a bit too much.

Vigilant Wardstone

Vigilant Wardstone Generally a decent last slot choice for spots as it allows you to continue having control wards in your inventory & you also get stats for doing so. Vigilant Wardstone is cheap and allows you to have TWO control wards on the map at all times rather than the normal one. Can be handy at controlling objectives this late into the game.

Laning Phase

Be aggressive with Starcall early. It does a lot of damage early and you will self-sustain back any poke. Look to use this whenever on cooldown.

Try to refrain from using Astral Infusion unless you have the Starcall buff 'Rejuvenation'. This will heal your ally for more.

Using Equinox to poke is OK early on. If you feel like you are going to be ganked soon, save it and use it to block pathways they are running. Don't necessarily use it on top of them. If you put it in-between yourself and the enemy, they will have to run through it and then risk being rooted by the duration ending.

When you hit level 6 Wish can save an ally across the map, however, try and wait until they are at least below 40% HP to get an extra boost in the heal through the ability passive + Revitalize.

Wish removes grievous wound debuff - however, when using it on Ignited targets, you will remove the wound, but the damage will still persist.

Sometimes not healing an ally that is below 40% hp and nearer a turret can be good thing. The increased movement speed running to them can be very helpful to get away yourself, whereas if you were to heal them, you wouldn't get that move speed boost from Salvation.

Teamfights

Unlike the laning phase, you will not want to be aggressive at the teamfight stage.

Ensure you have Equinox ready to disrupt assassins / tanks preventing them from escaping / using crowd control. Ideal if you can overlap on an already stunned/rooted target.

Try not to be too greedy with Wish. Sometimes its better to heal at 50-60% rather than trying to get the bonus at 40%.

Landing Starcall is your last priority, if you can get one off to get the buff and continue to spam heal allies with Astral Infusion this is the 'ideal' scenerio.

Be careful on your own health, don't forget Astral Infusion also costs your own health to do!

The End
